Using Hip Hop as a Tool To Engage Today’s Youth utilizes the music favored by youth to educate and empower for success. The workshop provides youth service providers and educators with a greater understanding of the music and its implication for addressing the behaviors of youth. The workshop is based on Rhyme & Reason a Hip Hop Curriculum written by David Miller & LaMarr Shields. The curriculum features activities using hip hop culture and rap music to address social justice issues. Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur wrote the introduction to the curriculum.

  • Understanding the hip hop & rap music
  • Using the music to engage youth around issues related to police brutality, poverty, crime, substance abuse, sexuality and education
